The Project

Our goal was to provide a seamless onboarding experience for users as they landed on our application. We aimed to inform them of completed steps, the ability to chat, upload artifacts, and communicate with their team. To achieve this, we created an interactive onboarding process, rather than a simple step-by-step explanation. Our objective was to ensure that the onboarding process was engaging and reflective of the experience that awaited the users.

Solving for Solvably

Onboarding is the process of introducing a new user to a product or service and guiding them through its features and functionality to ensure they have a successful first experience. In the context of UX (User Experience) design, onboarding refers to the steps taken to orient users to a product's design and interface, and to help them understand how to use it effectively.

Effective onboarding can have a significant impact on user engagement and retention, as it sets the tone for a user's overall experience with a product. A good onboarding process can help users feel more comfortable and confident using a new product, which can reduce frustration and increase satisfaction.

The specific elements of an onboarding process for UX will vary depending on the product, but some common features include:

  • 1. Introducing the product and its key features: This may include a brief overview of what the product is, what it does, and how it can benefit the user.
  • 2. Providing guidance on how to navigate the interface: This may include instructions on how to access different parts of the product, how to use menus and controls, and how to interact with the product's various features.
  • 3. Offering interactive tutorials: Many products will offer interactive tutorials that guide users through key features and functions of the product.
  • 4. Encouraging users to take action: Onboarding can be a great opportunity to encourage users to take specific actions within the product, such as creating a profile, setting up preferences, or completing a task.
  • 5. Providing helpful feedback and support: Onboarding should include opportunities for users to receive feedback and support, such as tips for improving their experience or links to relevant help resources.

The final version of the design was favorably received by users, who perceived it as an impactful visual aid that effectively communicated the full range of Solvably's capabilities during onboarding.
